Meet the Band

The Revel Sparks are a 5-piece band with musicians who have graced the world’s most famous stages including the main stage of Glastonbury, the Isle of Wight festival and the Royal Albert Hall. They keep things simple, focusing on delivering excellent renditions of modern and classic songs from a variety of genres from throughout the decades. The band are music enthusiasts who love performing and don’t just rely on the classics. It's their priority to ensure their setlist is always fresh, exciting and full of brilliant songs night after night. 

John - Guitar and Lead Vocals

John is a dedicated and passionate musician and has been playing guitar and singing since a very early age. His session work has provided him with the opportunity to perform and share the stage with many famous names from the music industry such as Kris Kristofferson, KT Tunstall, Rosanne Cash, and the Proclaimers to name a few. It has also allowed him to grace the stage of several famous venues across the globe such as The Royal Albert Hall in London, the Royal Concert Hall in Glasgow, Hotel Cafe in Los Angeles and even the Pyramid stage at Glastonbury. John has  performed live on live on radio and television many times including STV's Hogmany celebrations and 'The Late Late show' in the USA. John is a long time member of the Scottish group, Roddy Hart and the Lonesome Fire and is heavily involved in their ever popular Celtic Connections show 'The Roaming Roots Revue'. On top of all this, John was a member of the Glasgow based wedding band, Amplifive  for several years before starting the Revel Sparks  with Fiona.

Karina Smillie is a much sought after singer with 22 years experience in the music industry.  She has worked with the likes of Malcolm Lindsay, Tom Urie, Elaine C Smith, Lorraine MacIntosh, Donna Maciocia, Modern Studies and Anarkali. She has worked for BBC Scotland, ITV and Gaelic television providing live and recorded vocals, radio jingles and television theme tunes.  She has toured the length of breadth of the country, travelled with bands across Europe and performed at many music festivals.  With a 1st class honours degree in contemporary music and 13 years experience as a private vocal coach, she has a deep understanding and command of her instrument.

Fiona - Piano, Keyboards and Vocals

Fiona is a Glasgow born singer and keyboard player who studied classical piano from age 5 through to 15. Branching out into other genres, from 2006 she has enjoyed playing and recording with Colin MacIntyre’s Mull Historical Society including various sessions for tv and radio (Jo Wiley on Radio 2, BBC Quay Sessions, Radio Scotland and Radio Clyde), live shows (T in The Park, V Festivals and SXSW) as well as working in the studio alongside Grammy-winner Dom Morley (Amy Winehouse’s Back To Black).
Other notable career highlights include a support tour with The Proclaimers and, more recently, as keyboard player for Clare Grogan’s Altered Images. Currently Fiona is creatively involved in Glasgow based Lola In Slacks and, from January 2016 to present, has worked extensively within the wedding circuit as keyboard player and vocalist for Glasgow based Amplifive.

Lesley - Drums & Percussion

Lesley is a professional drummer and has been playing live for over 22 years. In that time she has toured America & Europe extensively and supported many of her favourite musicians along the way  - The Rolling Stones (Isle of Wight Festival) & the  Sex Pistols (Glasgow SECC) are 2 such examples. 
She has played most of the major UK music festivals and venues and has also played the infamous SXSW festival in Texas. She has performed at Tartan Week in New York, played to 25,000 at a major music festival in Quebec, Canada and covered Toronto twice. She has packed in dates up and down California from a huge show at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas to beach bars down in San Diego. 
Over the years, she has appeared on BBC Radio playing live sessions (Janice Long Show and Jeremy Vine Show, both Radio 2). She has appeared on countless radio stations abroad and also played on live on STV & RTE 1 with various bands.
Lesley currently performs with Clare Grogan’s Altered Images and also  part of the renowned Glasgow band, Lola in Slacks . When she’s not gigging she teaches drums via her drum school “Hit Squad” to children and young people, passing on her skills. 

Kieran - Bass, Guitar & Backing Vocals

Kieran is a Glasgow based musician who specialises mainly in performing guitar & bass guitar as well as being a lecturer of music in Further Education. 

He currently plays bass for Glasgow rock & soul covers band The Little Berries and has played with several popular function/wedding groups including The Strides and Matt Gloss and the Emulsions. He has experience playing with multiple types of bands in different venues (including the Royal Concert Hall, SECC and King Tut’s Wah Wah hut), and some of his original projects include alternative rock bands Bloke Music & Elastic Leg Party as well as previously playing with singer-songwriter Marina Rolink.
